default
Posted on Mon, 5 Dec 2016
Question: Yes, I had the shot Prolia 60mg SQ about the middle of October, then had dental work done! Which I did know that I should stay away from, have a painful swelling in my mouth, have had for about 6 weeks or so! Got on line, to check Prolia...which said that I should not go to a dentist after that shot! I did not know that! What should I do at this point?

Brief Answer:
Consult an Oral Surgeon..

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

As per your query, yes, it is true that dental treatment should be avoided after Prolila shots as it can cause complications like pathological fracture of jaw bone and Osteonecrosis of the jaw bone..

However such complications are commonly seen due to removal or extraction of tooth..

If you have a painful swelling post dental work, it is a matter of concern and you should consult an Oral Surgeon and get a clinical examination done along with appropriate x rays to get ruled out for the exact cause of the swelling and can be treated accordingly..

You should not delay it as if the infection has invaded the jaw bone it can keep in progressing and can have severe damage..

Hope this helps..

Regards..
