default
Posted on Mon, 13 Apr 2015
Question: I have a lump on my shoulder near my neck that is approx. the size of a golfball. It is not painful. It becomes more raised if touched. It is the same color as my skin unless touched, then of course turns pink/red. Do you know what this could be possibly?

Brief Answer:
A painless lump in the neck, shoulder region could be a lipoma.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome to Health Care Magic. Thank you for posting your query.
I have gone through your post in details. I can understand your concern.

Let me first ask you 3 questions and then solve your queries.
1. How long have you noticed this swelling?
2. Is it soft to touch?
3. Did you have any injury over there?
4, Have you developed fever?

Now , let me help you out. First of all, do not worry much.
A swelling in the shoulder-neck region can be
a) lipoma - swelling arising from the fatty tissue of the region
b) swollen lymph node - since it is painless the probabilities are less
c) sebacious cyst - cyst containing sebacious material
d) dermoid cyst - chances are less because this one usually occurs in the midline
e) neurofibroma - a swelling arising out of nerves
- to name a few

I would suggest you to get a blood test done for haemoglobin.total count,Differential count and ESR.

Visit a doctor. It is a bit difficult to give a diagnosis without actually examining the swelling. Your doctor can examine and correlate clinically.

Write back to us.
Thank you.
Have a nice day.
Regards.
