Question: I am taking oxycodone 30mg 4 times per day for severe Rheumatoid Arthritis. I also take Enbrel 50mg once a week, and prednisone 10mg per day. I seem to get my paplitations within 30 minutes after taking my oxycodone. I have a very guilty conscious as I have three children and hate that this disease has made me take so many different things. I have become scared, can this be all that it is? The medication that makes me the most afraid is the pain medication. Thanks!
Brief Answer:
Nondrug therapies also offer pain relief
Detailed Answer:
Hi.Thanks for writing on HCM.
The medications you have been taking are the standard of care for RA and donot have any drug interactions.Treatment plays a key role in controlling the inflammation of rheumatoid arthritis and in minimizing joint damage.
Palpitations are normally not seen with oxycodone use.I were to advice to slowly withdraw/switch on another alternate drug under medical supervision.
If you are afraid of pain medications their use can be minimized by regular reviews, particularly with physiotherapy and occupational therapy.Pain clinics offer nondrug management options, such as transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) and behavioural approaches. These will help to improve your quality of life, increase your confidence and ameliorate your symptoms. All this will help to care your children adequately.
These measures along with medications halt the progression of the disease which is very important because the disabilities are irreversible.
Hope these few information shall help you and keep you in good health.
