Question : My wife had bariatric surgery to lose weight, The Doctor has her using 70 to 100 grams of protein per day, since then she has been having a lot of pain in her uterus similar to a urinary tract infection, the doctor told her that she had a bladder infection but did not know what caused it, when she backs off of the protein it gets better and when she uses the protein again it flares up back, can the whey protein be causing the problem?

                                    Brief Answer:
Proteinuria
Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns
YOur wife has been placed on a high protein diet due to her bariatric surgery. This is a very common procedure and usually not a problem. If your wife has any kidney damage then she could be having proteinuria and that will cause an increase in urination. I would recommend that your wife get a full urine analysis and culture with the next episode of frequent urination. The other possibility is that she may be allergic to the whey protein. She could try a different protein source and see if that changed her symptoms
