Question : What causes periodic loss of muscle strength in thighs? The weakness runs from the groin to the knee(s) making it difficult, if not impossible, to get up from a sitting position. Walking more that 10-12 feet leaves me grabbing for a wall or shelf to hold myself in a partial upright position.
Brief Answer:

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic.
Thanks for your query.
This kind of muscle weakening is in most cases caused by compression of motoneurons in spinal cord or autoimmune disorders of neurones in brain. Rarely, some muscle diseases can be the cause. So you need to do MRI of spine and brain and check motoric neurons for legs. This finding should be evaluated by neurologist then. Treatment is usually made of physical therapy and specific therapy for neural protection.
Wish you good health.
