What Causes Periods Like Spotting And Positive Pregnancy Result While On Marvelon?

Question: Hi Doctor,

I have a concern.

With regards to the last thread of discussion, I had told you that I got my periods today. I just had bleeding at that time when I shared with you that I got my periods and after wards nothing till now. This is strange as whenever I got periods, I get pretty good flow in the first five days. Also, my periods date fall on the 15th and this time its 6 days earlier and that too for the first time.

For the past one week, I'm consuming raw dates and raw pineapple.

I had done some research work and they say it can be because of contraceptives, diet, stress and even pregnancy. When I saw pregnancy, I got freaked out.

Please assist me here.

Hi Miss XXXX,

Welcome back to HCM.

Since you have used a lot of Marvelon tablets the period can be erratic. There can be premenstual spotting followed by regular flow.

Yes it can happen in pregnancy too. But that is a remote possibility in your case.

To get rid of this tension you may do a blood pregnancy test tomorrow. I expect it to be negative. If it is negative and if you don't get period by 15th , you need to repeat the test again on 15th.

Once you get a negative pregnancy test on 15th , as mentioned earlier, take progesterone tablets to start your period.

I'm getting bleeding now every now and then, but not regular as it should be. Is it normal to get periods 6 days earlier? I will wait till Feb 15th to get a pregnancy test done. Please advise.

I just had periods for 3 days and then all stopped. Now nothing. I'm feeling excessively thirsty and less hunger. Otherwise I'm all ok.

I'm confused now. Please advise.

Three days period is normal. There is no reason for concern. If you are still worried about the short duration of period, get a pregnancy test done. I am sure it will be negative. That will put your mind at rest.
