What Causes Persistent And Severe Pain In Right Arm And Swollen Hand?

default
Posted on Tue, 2 Aug 2016
Question: For several months I have an extreme pain (usually starts at night) in my right arm which starts
in the armpit and ends in a swollen hand. (already told I have osteoarthritis). Cannot find a comfortable
position to relieve pain. Ibuprofen doesn't help. When arising, pain and tingling continue for a couple
more hours, eventually subsiding. I have swelling across knuckles every day, total right arm pain
about three times a week.

Brief Answer:
Consult a physical therapist.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. It seems that you could either have a frozen shoulder or cervical spondylosis. A clinical examination followed by X-Rays are needed for the same. I would insist you to see a doctor for the same. Based on the findings you would also need to see a physical therapist who would be able to suggest the right exercises as well as the right position which would be most comfortable and non-disruptive. As such physical therapy and hot compress should help in providing relief. Once the underlying situation is dealt with, you should be able to find a comfortable position.

Feel free to contact me back in case of further queries.
