Posted on Wed, 18 Nov 2015
Question: Hello, a couple of days ago I experienced middle/lower right side back pain. I work a job that requires stretching and a lot of back work. I had blood test done in September and my liver values were fine. Today my back in the same area is very tender to the touch. I also pulled a muscle in my rib area a few weeks ago. during a sickness and have had on and off spinal erector problems this year. I am more worried about liver issues.

Brief Answer:
Usually liver does not hurt at all.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Liver is an organ which does not cause pain at all. Only in case of liver abscess or bile ducts/gallbladder inflammation/stones pain appears. In all other issues, there is no pain at all. So your pain is not caused by liver for sure.
Most probable reason of your pain is spine or muscles issue. It can be spine disc herniation or as you have mentioned pulled muscle.
In case of spine disc herniation, the pain can very often radiate to one side leg (in case of lumbal/sacral spine problem) or upper limbs in case of cervical spine issue. There might be tingling or even muscle weakness.

So once again, this is not the liver. Its muscle or spine. To prove that, you may take Ibuprofen or Diclophenac and take a hot bath. The pain should get less intense in case of muscular/spinal source of it.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.

Brief Answer:
Yes, this is related.

Detailed Answer:
This just makes spinal issue much more probable. If this wont go away, spine MRI should be done.
