What Causes Persistent Diarrhea And Shooting Pain In The Abdomen?

default
Posted on Mon, 7 Nov 2016
Question: I've been having stomach issues for 3 days now. I've had diarrhea twice (once two days ago and once today) and what feels like constant trapped gas. I'm not in much pain when i'm sitting or laying still but when i move i get shooting pains throughout my stomach -- mainly in my rib cage area. I feel nauseated along with the pain. I cannot get in to see my doctor until Tuesday. What could this be? Is there anything i can do for the pain?

Detailed Answer:
Hi my dear,

I have gone through your medical history carefully and am sorry for the health situation you are going through.

Your symptoms of: diarrhea for 3 days now, although twice daily only; and feeling constant trapped gas. Pain you feel when moving especially in your rib cage area associated with nausea.

All these symptoms are indicative for possible gastroenteritis most probably due to virus. Unless you report to have these symptoms after having a meal outside (possible food intoxication).

Anyway, after a good physical examination by your doctor you'll be able to determine the right diagnosis.

Meanwhile, I advise to take as following until you see your doctor:
- tasectan or pepto bismol or caoline to for diarrhea
- probiotics to stabilize intestinal flora
- increase fluids intake with oral rehydration sal (ORS) to replace the lost fluids
- have bald diet : rice, toast, apple sauce, banana, yogurt
- take simethicone for bloating
- avoid foods causing gas like potato, dairies, etc.

If symptoms will get worse, then, should go to ER for immediate evaluation and treatment.

Wish fast recovery!
