Question : I went to an urgent need center last Sunday for a fever, cough with phlegm, fatigue, and overall just felt sick. The PA tested me for strep throat and the flu. Both came back negative. She was worried I might have a chest infection and didn't want it to turn into pneumonia. She put me on amox clav for ten days and a corticolsteroid for six days which I just finished. I am still running a 100.5 degree fever, coughing up a lung with phlegm and have been on the antibiotics for six days days. Should I return to see a doctor?
Brief Answer:
yes, you should be reviewed
Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic
Yes, you should consider going to your doctor for review.
After 6 days of antibiotics there should be some improvement even if not all of the symptoms had improved.
In most persons a fever would not be still present after 6 days of antibiotics.
This may indicate that your infection is resistant to the antibiotic that you were given and you need an alternative antibiotic
Antibiotic resistance is common
I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
