Brief Answer:
It can be due to some infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, dear
I have gone through your question.
I can understand your concern.

He has fever with bone pain and low platelets count.

It can be due some viral infection, bacterial infection, malaria or some other cause.

He should go for complete blood count, ESR, urine examination, malaria parasites examination and SGPT.

It will give primary idea about cause. Then he needs further investigation and treatment accordingly.

So please give me follow up with reports.

Also tell me about some history.

Since how many days he has fever?
Associated with chills or rigor?
Whether it is continues or intermittent?
Any problems in urine?
Any other symptoms?

So please give me follow up with history and reports.

Thanks for using health care magic.
Wish you very good health.
