My son who is eight months old and weighs 9 lgs is suffering from very high fever since last 48 hrs .... On the first night when the fever picked up o gave him crocin drops two times through the night..... In the morning when the fever do dint subside.... Took him to a paediatric... Wh initially told to wait for a day for further symptoms and advised contact with crocin and wet sponge..... By the same evening the fever was still very high close to 102 : 103.... So we visited the doctor again.... There the prescription was meftal sos, cetzine and ziprox.... Two times....
His fever comes down only with meftal and I am worried that should u can't to give him meftal...... ( I have restricted it to XXXXXXX three times in 24 hrs.) ... What could be the likelihood of fever..... The doctor told it as fever and cold..... When the fever start subsiding...
Can I give crocin along with these meds ..please help....
Investigate if high fever persist till then CROCIN can be given
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to the HCM
I understand your concerns but don't worry. Most likely cause of these symptoms in infants is a self limiting viral illness. It needs symptomatic treatment as advised by your pediatrician. Usually the symptoms start improving in 2-3 days.
If the fever is less than 102 degrees Fahrenheit then start with crocin (10-15mg/kg/dose). Repeat the dose after 6-8 hours if fever persists. I would reserve Meftal( mefenamic acid) as second line drug for fever relief over CROCIN. So CROCIN should be given first along with sponging.
Also, investigate him for bacterial infections if high fever persists for more than 72 hours. I would recommend you the following laboratory work up:
-CBC, CRP
- Throat swab culture to rule out streptococcal infection
- urine routine and microscopic examination along with culture to rule out urinary tract infection
- ear examination to rule out infection
- chest X Ray if any cough or breathing problems
You may post reports for my reference so that I may help you in the best possible way.
Take care

Reports are suggestive of viral illness
Detailed Answer:
Hi
The reports are suggestive of viral illness. It rules out any serious bacterial infection or malaria. Hopefully the child must be better by now
Also, the child has mild anemia most likely due to iron deficiency which needs treatment once the present illness completely improves.
Hopefully this will be of help. I would be happy to help you in any further questions.
Take care
