What Causes Persistent Itching In Arms And Legs When Diagnosed With Enteritis?

default
Posted on Mon, 14 Mar 2016
Question: Dear Doctor,
Simply, I have been scratching my arms and legs for nigh on 2 years. I have been through the mill having had ultra sound and two days ago, 'up and down scopes'. Nothing was found barring a minor case of enteritis. The Dermatologist, checked me over but didn't take any samples of the itchy spots. He instigated the invasive scopes, that was it! I have had untold extraordinary allergies over the years which were never diagnosed but which faded within a week or so. I am not saying this is yet another allergy, but the itch is driving me wild. This has to be something else, there has to be an anser. My GP now suggests an x-ray of my chest, so once again, I am back to square one - scared wise! Do 'scopes' not include investigation of the lungs? Could there not be an easier explaination, such as hormone imbalance or thyroid problem - courtesy of the Internet!
As an aside, I am 76. My hormones have been rarely asked to do anything!
Anything on the positive side you can impart, I should gratefully receive.
With kindest regards,
XXXXXXX XXXX

Brief Answer:
Certain blood tests should help in determining the allergic reaction.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX

I have very carefully gone through your query and have considered the options. Indeed it seems to be some form of allergic reaction but I feel that a parametric approach needs to be taken. My first suggestion would be to get the following blood tests done:
* Blood for total leucocyte count and differential count. I am looking to find if the eosinophil count is raised. Eosinophils are the body's mediators of allergic reactions.
* Blood for IgE. IgE or Immunoglobulin E is the antibody that mediates allergic reactions in case of certain other types of allergic reactions.

My suggestion would be to be on Montair LC (monteleukast + Levocetirizine), a prescription medicine. It has to be taken once daily off and on as per requirement. Discuss about it with your doctor.

Regards
