What Causes Persistent Itchy Rashes On The Body Despite Taking Medication?

Question: Had a skin reaction rash itching severe from furosemide.Taking prednisone and Benadryl. It has been 5 days. Any idea when the itching will stop?

I appreciate your concern

The allergic reaction and the itching should have subsided with these meds for 5 days.

Ideally the antihistamine can be changed to hydroxyzine to look for improvement. Most likely the addition of hydroxyzine would resolve the itching.

Blood counts, ESR and renal function tests should also be done if the itching persists. The dose of prednisolone can be increased accordingly.
