What Causes Persistent Leg And Foot Pain?

default
Posted on Thu, 8 Oct 2015
Question: My husband has constant leg and foot pain. He is diabetic, overweight and has congestive heart failure, OH and COPD. He is constantly in pain, and very vocal about it (owie, owie, ouch...) nothing seems to make it better for more than a few minutes. He has sleep apnea, and has been diagnosed with restless leg syndrome. But this pain is constant awake or asleep, mostly from the knee down, there is no change in the coloration of the skin, he's had quadruple bypass. He hasn't smoked in 15 years. PLEASE HELP! He take Requip for the restless leg, but it doesn't seem to help, he even beats his hands and arms at night.

what kind of surgery for the circulation, and what kind of doctor should he see for that?
diabetic pain starts at the end of the limbs inward? do you mean it would start at the foot and go up to his knee?
And I don't understand what you mean about reship dose varies 10 food?

He's been seeing a chiropractor, what should he ask her about?
thanks

Brief Answer:
several clarifications

Detailed Answer:
If he doesn't already have a doctor he certainly needs one; an internal medicine doctor.
Then... I made a typo, sorry, the dose of requip varies ten FOLD. it goes from a half a milligram to at least up to five milligram and too low a dose won't do much.

Pain can be from a number of causes and most of them are possible here.
There can be plain inflammation such as from an infection. This would not generally be BOTH legs and would show signs of infection such as redness and purulence, fever and chills. There can be a nerve injury. diabetic sick nerves have problems starting at the ends of the limbs and progressing inward/upward. The most severely affected part would be the ends of the legs.
Traumatized nerves on the other hand have pain at the site of trauma and the pain extends outward. If someone has a back problem, the back hurts and the pain spreads outward and downward.
Next if there is problems with circulation, then the limb/limbs hurt like they are heavy. The pain is worse with any exertion. There are signs that the limb is not getting enough blood. And operations to connect up arteries to bring blood into the limb can be very helpful. That would be a vessel surgeon (vascular surgery) but the first step is diagnosis with a general physician/internist.
