What Causes Persistent Middle And Upper Back Pain?

default
Posted on Thu, 15 May 2014
Question: Hi,

I've had all these crazy symptoms no doctor has been able to explain. I've had persistent middle and upper back pain for over two months, really inter scapular pain, the base of the back of my head hurts too causing sharp pains in my temporal area, I've noticed my vision getting worse, although I've seen an optometrist and there's no change in my retina or cornea, I've had major stomach issues (pain, farting sound from the inside, gas, and now green stool), cold fingers/toes, and the list goes on and on. My only script is Adderall 30 mg xr 1/day. Any idea what's going on. I'm 33 and have always been fit and healthy. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Get tests done.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have read your query.

You have problems related to back pain, headache, eyes, GIT, etc. Your symptoms match with Reiter's disease.

But to make exact diagnosis you need to have following tests...

1) For back and neck pain, get MRI scan of whole spine to know present condition of vertebrae, discs and nerve compression if present.

2) Get your fasting E.S.R levels done.

3) Stool examination.

4) Swab from throat for examination.

5) Anti nuclear antibody, C.R.P, RA factor, circulating immune complex.

You may send me the reports of above mentioned tests or discuss it with your doctor in your locality. I will advise you further management depending upon reports - Antibiotics like doxycycline, glucosamine for joints, multivitamins, aceclofenac + thiocolchicoside combination etc.

Till then you should stop taking Adderall and instead take 1 tablet aceclofenac + thiocolchicoside combination three times a day and tab. tramadol 25 mg at night. Tramadol is a narcotic like pain-reliever to be taken when pain is bad. Discuss about your medicines with your treating doctor.

I hope you have got your answer.

If you have found my answer excellent then you can close discussion and award me full marks.

Thanks.

Dr.Singh.

Thank you Dr. Your answer makes 100% sense to me, I'm relieved to have found your website. I have taken an antibody test and testedpositive for FANA, my XXXXXXX was 1:320, speckled pattern. So I was referred to a rheumatologist, who based on my clinical symptoms felt I did not have an auto immune disorder. All my blood work the rheumatologist took came back normal. Also all blood work my primary physican took came back normal too ( minerals, vitamins, organ functions). So desperate for answers I took an untraditional route and saw s chiropractor who took xrays and said my C4, some lumber vertebrae, which lead to some of my thorasic vertebrae to be out of alignment. Can this cause my whole body to be messed up with all these symptoms? Why do you recommend I stop taking adderall, is it possibily causing issues too? I've felt in my heart it is s contributing factor. Thank you!

Brief Answer:
Get MRI scan done.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for your response.

It is very good that your tests are with in normal limits.

My friend I have already advised you MRI because on x-ray one can tell only the condition of vertebrae but with MRI we can tell about the discs and compression of nerves which causes symptoms which you are facing.

Although the adderall is generally well-tolerated and effective. But it has some side effects, the most common are cardiovascular, such as fast or irregular heartbeat, and psychological, such as anxiety.

I hope it helps.

Regards.

Dr.Singh.
