default
Posted on Tue, 29 Mar 2016
Question: My right ear is stuffed up and has been for weeks. There is pressure and occasional pain. I cannot hold the phone to my right ear and hear clearly, Sounds are muffled and at times there is ringing if I turn my head to the left. I've tried Claritin D and gargling and warm steam all to no avail. Two doctor visits and nothing resolved.
Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Considerations

Detailed Answer:
Hello & thank you for submitting your question.

I can understand your frustration with this unresolving constellation of symptoms. What you describe could be due to several conditions such as otitis media (inner ear inflammation) or even inflammation aftecting the soft tissue and bone surrounding the inner ear structures. This inflammation could be caused by infection. You mentioned you have seen 2 doctors already, but did not list if you've been given any antibiotic therapy. If you have not yet been prescribed any antibiotic, you may try calling the last physician you saw & inquiring about a prescription since it's such a long time before you can see the ENT Doctor. Unfortunately, without a good physical examination it is impossible to definitively determine what is the cause of your symptoms.

I hope you will be feeling
better soon.

This began following a snorkel trip in Mexico. Maybe water in the canal that's infected? I'll check with PCP about antibiotics. Thank you.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again.

it's very possible there may be infected fluid there. If so, some antibiotics would likely help resolve your symptoms very quickly.

Wishing you all the best and continued good health.
