Question : For the past month ive been having on again off again sore throats. My girlfriend has had similad and went to the doctor and got antibiotics. Ive been having a lot of phlegm recently. And ive been hacking a lot recently. The color is mostly green/yellow, but today especially theres a bit of red. My girlfriend's symptoms have cleared right up. Im very stuffy and really not feeling sick just a lot of phlegm. But im really worried about the red. Maybe due to a lot of hacking. What do you think? If these symptoms persist for a day or two more im going to go to a doctor because im really scared. Any suggestions?

Hello

Please don't worry!! the bleeding is likely to be due to hacking.

However since your cough is persisting for a long time I suggest you meet your doctor and get yourself examined

The cause for the cough may not be an infection rather it maybe due to an allergic.

Normally in my patients I would avoid antibiotics and start them on allergy medicine like moteleukast and levocetrizine combination along with a cough suppressant like dextromethorphan (please get them prescribed by your doctor).

I would also recommend that you gargle with chlorhexidine gargles thrice a day and take steam inhalation thrice a day. This will help reduce your symptoms
