Question: I have tingling in my right cheek that started 3 months ago. It is off and on all day long, but not when I sleep. It is disturbing, and it is not getting better or worse, just stays the same. I would like a opinion from a neurologist.

Brief Answer:
Need to exclude trigeminal neuralgia.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted your symptoms. Based on that, we need to exclude a diagnosis of trigeminal neuralgia.

Trigeminal nerves starts in the brainstem and supplies sensations to cheek/face. Any problem in that nerve can cause tingling/pain over the face/cheek. The most common causes are compression of the trigeminal nerve by a blood vessel and ischemia (lack of blood supply to brainstem). In some, no obvious cause is identified.

As of now, we need to do an MRI of brain with angiogram to determine the cause.

For relief of symptoms, carbamazepine tablets are useful.

I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.

Wishing you good health,
