Question: Doctor.
i have a vitiligo problem since 14 years and now i am 19 years.i have used lots of medicines and there is no change.
Hello doctor
Doctor i went to the hospital yesterday and i said doctor that i can no longer take the mesoral-10 because it makes me dizzy and he said there is no other choice besides mesoral-10.i said him that one of my doctor has advised me for prednisolone but he said it has very high doses and side effects. He refused me for that and asked me to continue with mesoral-10.Because mesoral-10 is very hard for me to use so am not taking any medicines besides tacrolimus ointment and geriforte.
Please help me with any other ideas
Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Phototherapy for extensive vitiligo; topical psoralens for limited patches

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing back to us.

Besides Oral psoralens (mesoral-10 tablets) there are other systemic treatment options for vitiligo like NB-UVB Phototherapy.

Instead of oral mesoral tablet you can use a topical solution (topical psoralens) for limited number of vitiligo patches.

Choice of treatment depends on the extent of involvement. So if you have extensive involvement you are a candidate of NB-UVB phototherapy along with topical tacrolimus with or without topical steroids.

However, for limited skin involvement topical psoralen solution followed by sun exposure is as good as taking as Oral Mesoral tablets without the side effects like dizzines.

Brief Answer:
Phototherapy may be restarted; I wont suggest alternative treatments

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

New vitiligo patches may appear after treatment is discontinued Or even during treatment.
You may restart NB-UVB phototherapy. It is safe, effective and devoid of the side effects that you experience with oral psoralens.
NB-UVB Phototherapy is preferred modality of treatment in vitiligo along with topical tacrolimus and topical steroids and patients usually experience long remissions.
There is no permanent cure for vitiligo in alternative medicine i.e homeopathy or ayurvedic.
Since vitiligo is a chronic disease therefore it is not unsual that patients will try alternative treatments i.e homeopathy, ayurvedic, naturopathy etc.
However I have never seen a patient of vitiligo who has completely responded to homeopathy Or ayurvedic treatment. In my opinion you should stick to allopathy treatment.
