Question : Sometimes, I get a persistent whooshing sound in my right ear. It can be heard by another if they press their ear to mine. It usually persists for most the day and is generally gone the next day, but it has lasted 2 days in the past. At first it is just annoying, but by the end of the day the side of my head will begin to ache. I've been attributing it to allergies as I get pretty congested, but should I have it checked out?

Brief Answer:
Middle ear muscle spasms or blood related changes...

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for posting the query

The symptoms described by you could be either related to the blood pressure related changes in the middle ear or tiny muscle spasms inside the middle ear (or near to the ear).

My suggestion to you is to get a thorough evaluation done by an apt ENT specialist. You may require CT scan with or without MRI of the temporal bone to confirm the diagnosis.

Hope I have answered your query; I'll be available for the follow up queries.
