Question : Husband 82 yrs of age having fanton pains in legs and feet. Has taken narcotics for about 4 yrs. Would amytryptaline be a suggested form of treatment. Is on gabapentin at the moment, without any positive results.

The main medications to manage this are gabapentin, amytryptylline, and carbamazepine. Response varies from one individual to another and we would need to try new drugs and combinations in efforts to find out what works best for him. In this light, I will actually encourage that he goes on this drug and let's evaluate at a later date to see if it helps or not.
