Brief Answer:
At least have one pelvic ultrasound.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXX,

Thanks for sharing your mom's problem with us.

So, your mom is having Post-menopausal bleeding & she had quite a late Menopause!

Post-menopausal bleeding is a serious cause of concern for Gynecologist as in approximately 10% of cases it may indicate a genital tract malignancy.

She need to be seen by a Gynecologist! She should have a local examination of her cervix & vagina & a Pap smear test if not done in the recent past.

She should also have a pelvic ultrasound scan (TVS) to see the endometrial thickness. These two are likely to provide us with valuable information regarding her condition.

She may also need an endometrial biopsy depending upon her Ultrasound report.

If she is taking some form of HRT, this may have caused this bleeding. Anyway, there is no substitute to a formal Gynecologist review. At least, a pelvic ultrasound is mandatory.

Taking any medicine without a formal diagnosis may prove harmful in her age group.

Hope she gets well soon.

Take care.

Brief Answer:
Re-check her Thyroid function.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXX,

Welcome back.

Thyroid functions if poorly controlled can cause menorrhagia ( heavy periods), but this not the case with a post-menopausal lady. Any bleeding after the menopause need active & full evaluation.

However, it would be wise if she re-checks her Thyroid profile to make sure all is OK.

Wish you best of luck.

Take care.

Brief Answer:
She can wait if bleeding is not heavy.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXX,

Thanks for your question & very sorry for a late reply.

This is really good that she is better than before.

If the bleeding is mild then perhaps she can wait as nothing is going to change during that time, but if she is bleeding heavily then this can lead to anemia. In that case she may report to an emergency department as in her age group anemia can lead to many dangerous complications.

Hope she gets well soon.

Best regards.
