What Causes Pressure In Chest?

default
Posted on Mon, 26 May 2014
Question: I have a nagging pressure I can feel in my chest and on my back opposite the chest. It is not a excessively painful but I am worried about what could be causing it. It is a dull pain that I have dealt with for many months. Like I said it is not excessively painful but I have noticed that the feeling has increased in the last few weeks. The feeling on my chest it around the upper right side of my left pectoral. On the back side the feeling seems slightly lower and close to my spine. When I attempt to lie down on my chest or my left side, it feels that the feeling is slightly more intense.
There are other issues I want to mention that I thought might be related. Lately my heart will start beating very fast out of nowhere, especially if I try to lie on my chest. I have a very sharp pain that starts around the area of my right kidney and shoots all the way down to my right ankle where I feel most of the pain. This issue I have dealt with for several years now. It probably isn't related but I thought it would be worth mentioning.
Also I will give some basic information about myself. I am a 26 year old male. I'm 6'0 205 lbs. I am above average health. I am in the Army so I work out often and stay pretty active. My diet is very poor. I have suffered multiple hot weather injuries in the Army including rhabdomyalysis.

Brief Answer:
I will advise you to do MRI thoracic spine

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have studied your case. I am listing the probable causes for your symptoms.
Due to compression of this nerve root there is pain in your back and chest.
Due to occlusion of vessels there can be burning sensation.
This can be related to smoking also.

I will advise you to do an ECG, MRI thoracic spine, HRCT [CHEST] and EMG- NCV [nerve conduction study].

For these symptoms analgesic and neurotropic medication can be started.
Till time, avoid lifting weights, Sit with support to back. You can consult physiotherapist for help.
Physiotherapy like ultrasound and interferential therapy will give quick relief.
I will advise to check your vit B12 and vit D3 level.
As you are saying about increase in heart beat, you may need cardiac primary check up once to rule out any abnormality.

Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.

Wishing you good health.

Take care.
