What Causes Pressure Inside The Esopaghus Like The Muscle Pressure After Hernia Hiatal Repair?

default

Question: hello :) I had nissen fundoplication and hiatal hernia repair in Januar.2017.
It has worked great and havent used medication since for reflux
I cant burp and I did know that before I did the surgery and staying away from bloating foods. So this is acceptable.

At first the splinter was really tight, so food got stuck easily in the esopaghus if not chewed well enough; but with time this resolved and now everything passes without problems most of the time.
But just sometimes after not eating for a long time or hard workout my muscle seems very tight and the first bite of bread or fish can get stuck in the esopaghus if not chewed well enough and passes after a few seconds/minutes and then everything is normal again.

This doesnt bother me, but the only thing I want to know is this safe for the esopaghus and my new wrap; that food sometimes are being pressed down with the esopaghus muscles. Sometimes I can really feel the pressure inside the esopaghus like the muscle pressure when food get stuck.I can get this little spasm feeling in the esopaghus that goes away after a few seconds; and sometimes if the food doesnt go down immediately this ends with a UES(upper esopaghus splincter burp) and then the pressure reliefs and then it goes down. This happens only once in a while.

I want to know ; can the esopaghus tolerate this ? and it will not tear apart or rupture the wrap or anything ?

Brief Answer:
Take one tablet nitroglycerine 2.6 mg daily (prescription).

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Unless you are overloading the esophageal pipe with food it can tolerate mild pressure for some time without any loss.
Secondly try taking nitroglycerine 2.6mg tablet once daily sublingually before taking your food after heavy exercise or when you feel heaviness.
It would relieve the esophageal sphincter spasm.
So no need to worry.

Firstly try to avoid eating at times when you know its going to cause problem otherwise just take a nitrogylcerine tablet or spray it sublingually to make sphincter lax. Its a very safe drug and headache may be the only side effect.
Time span of nitroglycerine is 12 hours so you can take it at 8 am in morning and would be effective till your dinner.

Follow ups are welcome.
Thanks.
