Question : This evening I started having the sensation of something pricking me above my ankle. It is worse when I stand up and walk or when I flex the ankle. What could cause this?

I have gone through your question in detail and understand your concern. You are likely to be having transient nonspecific synovitis of ankle may be due to some viral infection. It may resolve gradually itself. You can take analgesic such as ibuprofen for pain relief. Vitamin B and C helpful in its resolution. Rest for few days and elevation of foot and ankle on pillow during resting period is helpful. You can discuss with your doctor about it.
