What Causes Progressive Right-sided Rib Cage Pain Radiating Towards Front At Night?
Question: I have been having this pain right below my right side rig cage that radiates towards my side and front. It only gets worse at night while sleeping and wakes me up because i feel like someone bear hugging me and make me hard to breath. My physician thought it might be related to my gallbladder, kidney or my liver and ran bunch of tests. These tests includes, full blood work, ST scan without contrast for kidney and gallbladder stones. Nothing came out positive except I had a fatty liver so they ordered hepatitis test but that was also negative. Then they did an ultrasound of my liver, kidney and gallbladder and nothing showed up. Then they took an x-ray of my lumbar area to see if I had any pinches nerves. After further testing with MRI, they found out that i had a bulging disk on my L5 and L5 but they said it would not be the reason why i was having that pain in those certain areas so referred me to a GI. My GI doctor ordered a Hida scan with injection and now awaiting on my results. My question is that if the Hida scan comes normal, what could be the cause of my pain or what other testing would you guys recommend? Please advice.
Brief Answer:
ERCP and EUS.
Detailed Answer:
Hello!
Thank you for the query.
First of all I would like to know if you have had this tests: GGTP, AP, amylase, urine amylase? If so, what are the results?
If HIDA scan will be negative, I would recommend ERCP test and EUS. Both are done with endoscopy.
ERCP is a test where special catheter is inserted into a bile ducts and pancreatic duct. Tiny stones in this structures or other obstacle can be the reason of such symptoms.
EUS is an ultrasound done with endoscopy. It is useful to diagnose small pancreas issues. Biopsy can be than during this test.
Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
