What Causes Prolonged Menstrual Bleeding After Taking Zarah?

default
Posted on Fri, 22 Jan 2016
Question: hi i have been bleeding several days after my period has ended. it is reminds me of spotting just enough to see when i wipe myself or if a wear a XXXXXXX tampoon. i recently started taking zarah. is this normal. i asked my gyn how and when to take this pill. she told me to start taking immediately which was the first day after my period had ended which i did. the following month my period can a week late and i had the symptoms i described above. along with my breast being so swollen and tender. feeling so full. the next month my period my period can a week early and i still have had all of the above symptoms what should i do?? i have stop taking this pill because i feel it has caused my hormones to get completely out of whack. i was trying see if my hormones will balance themselves back to being normal by no longer taking this. i also was reading how to take this pill and it specifically says to start pill the first day of period or the first sunday after i have started my period. why did my gyn tell me the complete opposite??? could that have some bearing on what's going on with me now??????? HELP

Brief Answer:
Withdrawal effect of hormonal pills

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Zarah is the oral contraceptive pill which should ideally be started on the first day of the periods.
By yourdescription, I have interpreted that you have not taken the pills in this menstrual cycle.
This spotting you are having is most likely due to the withdrawal effect of the pills and is likely to resolve in next1-2 weeks.
I suggest you not to worry.
Hope you found the answer helpful.

Wishing you good health.

thank for your response. i stopped taking the pills approximately 5 days ago. my period is due in approximately 10 days from today. should i start taking the pill on that first day of my period then?? or should i start taking the pill in feb on the first day of my period then??? basically what i am asking is should i stay off the pill this coming menstrual cycle due in 10 days to see if the bleeding stops after my period ends and what until February to start the pills again on the first day of my period???? if my bleeding does not stop then what should i do???
and to clarify this spotting did not occur when i stopped zarah. it began when i started taking the pills. i stated that i was instructed to start the pills immediately which was the first day after my period ended and my gyn was completely aware i had just ended my period the day before. I'm trying to be very precise because i do not understand what is going on with my body. i have never experienced this before and i just don't want to be walking around with possibly some type of cancer. i am very worried.

will some please answer my follow-up question

Brief Answer:
Local lesions should be ruled out

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
Sorry for the delay, I was stuck in an emergency.
You should not take pills in the coming menstrual cycle to assess the pattern of bleeding.
If the bleeding still continues after periods, then you should get yourself examined by an OBGYN specialist and get pap smear, ultrasound and endometrial biopsy, if required, to confirm the diagnosis and get appropriate treatment.
Local lesions in cervix or vagina including cervical cancer and endometrial dysfunction can cause irregular spotting or bleeding.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
