benign prostate hypertrophy

Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

You ar wondering what causes a persons prostate to enlarge. The prostate enlarges because of testosterone hormones and other sex hormones stimulate the prostate to grow. There is a how list of chemical reactions that happen to stimulate the prostate but to make it simple it is related to testosterone and prostate metabolism.

To help reduce the size of the prostate there are several medications on the market like proscar that help stop the growth and may help reduce the size. There are other medications that relax the bladder sphincter muscle that also help reduce night time awakenings to urinate.

So there is nothing OTC you can use that will help reduce the size of the prostate. Bicycling will not affect your BPH and is not the cause of the enlargement

The CT scan showed that the prostate was heterogeneous, which to my understanding, is soft in some areas and dense in others of the gland. My question is what could be the cause of this. Also they scoped my bladder and said that my prostate was beginning to go inside my bladder. Does this prostate grow inside the bladder?

Brief Answer:
BPH

Detailed Answer:
This the nature of benign prostate hypertrophy. The heterogenous is the irregular growth of tissue in the prostate. This is how it grows. This is normal for BPH.

The prostate will not grow into the bladder it will push up into the bladder and can therefore cause difficulty urinating and inability to completely void. Again this is typical of BPH.
