Question : I have a 7 nearly eight month old daughter who is healthy but genetically lean. She is growing normally, and eats well but is in the 30% and is tall not chubby. I have noticed that her lowest rib on her left side protrudes slightly outwards more than the other side. She is very content and this does seem to be causing her any pain. Could I have inadvertently caused this problem (I sometimes hold her very tightly to calm her down when she is unsettled). Should I have her x-rayed??

                                    Brief Answer:
its normal
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for the query.
Weight of the child depends on multiple factor, like genetics, birth weight and feeding habits.
Weight gain is important indicator of health of child. Though some child may be very active causing them to gain less weight.
Rib protusion needs to be examine, as there are multiple reason for that like trauma, infection.
But if other activities of the child are normal you need not to worry.
It may be normal in some cases.
X ray advise can be given only after examination of rib.
Hope I helped you
