These growths are due to defects in epidermis and keratinization.
Abnormal growth of keratin tissue can cause such growths.This is mainly due to dysregulated keratin production of the stratified squamous epithelium of the tongue mucosa.
Likewise in few cases , poor dental hygiene secondary to caries or other oral diseases can lead to these growths.
