default
Posted on Wed, 7 Dec 2016
Question: I have had a history of raynauds in my fingers. Today one of my fingers turned purple which I am concerned about circulation issues. I did not injure the finger in any way which could have caused bruising.

Brief Answer:
Keeping warm is the main treatment

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome
I have gone through your query.
The discolouration in the Raynaud's is due to a narrowing of the small blood vessels on exposure to the cold, or to a change in temperature, or to emotional stress. In most cases, the cause is not known.

Keeping warm is the main treatment. Keep your hands and feet warm. Warm gloves, socks and shoes are essential when you are out in cool weather.
Keep your whole body warm, not just your hands and feet. Although your hands and feet are the most important, symptoms are less likely to occur if you keep your entire body warm.
There are other medications that can be given if the above measures don't help much like nifedipine, it is prescription based agent.
I would suggest you to see local doctor or physician for examination and further help.
Take care

My fingers always turn white at the onset of Raynauds but this finger has turned purple and has stayed this color since yesterday afternoon. Typically Raynauds lasts at most 30 minutes. I'm wondering if this is a circulation problem. I don't recall bumping or injuring it in any way.
Thank you.
