What Causes Rash Between Fingers Web?

Posted on Wed, 15 Oct 2014
Question: Hi Doctor
I have a rash is a very small area between the fingers web, just at the tip alone.
Skin tend to become dry, itchy, red/brwonish and flaky.
I wash my hands with soap and water 3-4 times a day especially to clean that area and keep it dry, it appears to keep that rash in check, however it is not going completely.
Can you help in this?

Brief Answer:
It can be a fungal infection

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,welcome to HCM forum.

Most commonly, such symptom is caused by a fungal infection(inter trigo),and will respond to topical antifungals like clottrimazole.
When it is caused by fungal infection,it is better to avoid frequent washing,as moisture will promote fungal growth.

You can try applying clotrimazole lotion twice daily. Also keep the area clean and dry.
For itching, you can use Levocetirezine 5mg at night for 5 days(be cautious-it can cause some sedation).
If the symptoms come down in 1 week, you have to continue treatment for about 6 weeks and then stop.
Otherwise,we have to think of other dermatological conditions, for which you can approach a dermatologist.

Hope I have answered your query.
Thank you.
