Question : My son has had a rash when we came home from camping a few weeks ago. We took him to our pediatrician and she said it was bug bites. However, he woke up yesterday with red bumps that look like welts. We fear the doctor will tell us the same thing again; however, we really don't know the best way to treat it. It does bother him, and he is scratching them profusely.

I had gone through your question and photographs you have uploaded, I would like further information for better assessment of the condition like
Is he running fever?
Any other rashes other than this site
Is it reducing since its appearance?

Appearance of rashes, after coming from camping might be related to contact dermatitis or bug bite so you need not to worry
Continue with calamine and chortizone cream I am sure he will be alright very soon
For itching you can increase the dose of benadryl or change it over to cetrizine syrup after discussing with your doctor
