What Causes Rashes All Over The Body And Chapped Lips While On Nexium?

default
Posted on Tue, 14 Feb 2017
Question: I was on nexium 40mg daily and after raising my dosage to 80mg daily I got a bad rash and chapped lips. I immediately stopped taking nexium and have been off of it for 4 days now but my acid reflux is really bad now. What should I do? A doctor here recommended another PPI but i was trying to give my body a break from PPIs since i had been taking Nexium for 3 months.

Brief Answer:
Never stop medicines on your own.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for selecting HCM for query!
Stopping a PPi suddenly will cause rebound gastritis and GERD.So as you want to be off PPI's just try to taper them off.Lower the doses to half for about 10 days then again lower the doses to one forth for a week or so,After that if things are good stop taking PPI's.
You should take Rabeprazole dsr once daily for a few days.Don't stop medicines before consulting your gastroenterologist.
Drink plenty of cold milk.
Eat a lots of yoghurt.
Don't eat excessive fatty food.

One last thing: Can I take Omeprazole instead of Rabeprazole? I am asking because it is a lot easier for me to get Omeprazole since it is OTC. Why do you recommend Rabeprazole?
