What Causes Rashes Around The Navel Which Spread Upon Scratching Along With Rashes On The Arm At An Injury Site?

default
Posted on Mon, 11 Sep 2023
Question: My son (4 yrs 10 months old, weight 28 kgs) has had a rash near his navel since mid Feb. When applying Sudocreme for nearly 7 days did not yield results, I consulted a skin specialist who prescribed Fucibet cream.
After nearly 3 weeks Fucibet did not work. It would sometime appear to subside and then reappear red and very itchy. The more he would scratch the more it seemed to spread. Also some scratch marks on his arm recd in a fight started looking like the same rash. Consulted the skin doc again and he prescribed Betnosone tablet, and Xyzal syrup along with Fusibet creme and Atraraz lotion.
Now today morning he has a prickly heat kind of rash across his torso front and back, as well as on the upper arm and upper thigh. The stomach rash persists.
The sand in our society sand pit was changed in XXXXXXX and I attributed his feb rash and subsequent arm rash to this poor quality sand. Have stopped his sand play since the last 10 days and that has probably helped subside the arm rash. Why the stomach rash persists Iam unsure.
He has sensitive skin and has had a facial rash (very similar to prickly heat) since he was 6 months old. He has been eating a lot of mangoes in the last 5/6 days and the body eash which has appeared today may be due to the heat. This is also showing on his face especially near the ends of his mouth hence the conclusion.
Would like to know what could be the cause of these varied skin problems and what medication should I give him.

Brief Answer:
Two different types of rashes

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

The rashes on the abdomen and body are not due to a bacterial cause and therefore application of Fucibet will not help. Please stop it. Apply Candid (Clotrimazole) Dusting powder topically over the affected areas.

The rash on the arm is different and seems to be due to an allergic reaction or contact dermatitis. Apply some aloe vera lotion and give some anti-allergic like Xyzal.

Hope I have answered your query. Feel free to write back.

Thank you Dr. for the prompt response. Relieved that you do not think it is something more serious like psoriasis.

So I apply Candid powder to the rash near the navel as well? Have been applying fucibet for nearly 6 weeks!

Also how many times a day should the powder be applied.

Same query for Aloe Vera lotion and Xyzal. What frequency and for the syrup what quantity please. Weight of the child 28 kgs.
