What Causes Recurrent Itchy Hives On The Hip And Legs?

default
Posted on Wed, 9 Nov 2016
Question: Since 1.5 weeks ago I have had a breakout that comes and goes of hives/itching on my hip, top half of my legs back, and arms. I've tried to log my diet to see what is causing this, and I can't isolate it. Could this be a gluten allergy? I initially thought it was egg, although I didn't have egg last night and had another breakout. What would you recommend?

Brief Answer:
Take antihistaminic for 10-12 days

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for being at healthcaremagic
I am Dr Asmeet Kaur Sawhney, a dermatologist.
Gluten allergy is a very unlikely cause of hives.
Hives can occur due to many causes like food allergies, infections, thyroid disorders and sometimes without any cause.
Since your hives are of recent onset I would recommend you to take antihistaminics like tablet Cetrizine 10 mg twice daily for 10-12 days.
This should resolve the hives.
Otherwise consult a doctor and get yourself investigated to find out the cause.

Dr Asmeet
