What Causes Recurrent Lymph Node Swelling In Groin Area?

I have had a recurring lymph node swell in my groin for about a year. It happens about every three months. Seems it may be after physical activity like hiking. It has blisters that form only in the area of the lymph node as well. Goes away after about a week. I have had a staff infection as a kid, not sure if that plays a role. Thanks

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
To recapitulate: (Age and sex not mentioned) - You have a history of a recurring lymph node (LN) swelling in the groin for about a year -seems to be after physical activity like hiking - happening every three months - blisters in the area of LN - goes away after about a week - had a staff (? staph) infection in childhood -
The most probable reasons for such a problem can be:
- Specific infections in the LN
- Focus of infection in the drainage area of this LN.
I would suggest you the following:
- FNAC (Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology) of the LN.
- Consult a General Surgeon or a Dermatologist for clinical evaluation, actual physical examination, to find the focus of infection if any, and to start the treatment upon the clinical judgement and of the reports of FNAC and the tests of blood, urine and stool.
- Ultrasonography of the area to see for other nodes, relationship with the deeper structures and relation to the blood vessels. This is important to get the knowledge, if the surgery has to be done for excision of this LN to get a histopathological diagnosis.
Once the diagnosis is made the treatment can then be easily implemented.
I hope this answer helps you to get started the proper diagnosis and treatment.
Please feel free to ask for more if you need to or if you feel that there is a gap-of-communication.
