Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day

Dear Ms XXXXXX

The most likely cause of recurrent nasal congestion appears to be allergic rhinitis. The allergy in majority of the cases is due to dust and mites. This is a common problem encountered in children. Do not worry things can be taken care off. Iron supplement and multivitamin supplements are not required if proper diet is given.

I would not recommend routine/repeated use of Tminic(Phenylephrine) is not routinely recommended for children . Levolin is Levosalbutamol and is given when there is Bronchoconstriction and asthma. Repeated respiratory tract infection is quite common in children and needs immunity boosting and avoiding dust.
I would advise you the following, which i am sure will definitely help

1. Steam inhalation: It will be a good habit to cultivate. Steam inhalation for 10-15 minutes each session twice a day. Give it regularly even if he is alright. It helps reduce nasal congestion and also clears the nose. You can buy a good quality electronic steamer
2. Monticope suspension: It has antihistaminic and mast cell stabilizer which will help reduce airway hyper reactivity and reduce the incidence of future attacks. It has to be used for 4- 6 months after which it can be stopped. 2.5 mg of Montelukast once daily
3. Wash the bed sheets pillow covers and cloth of baby in hot boiling water: It will remove the dust , mites and allergic substance present in it.
4. Decoction: To a cup of milk + 20 tulsi leaves+ 1 spoon of turmeric + small piece of ginger + 4 black pepper + 2 spoon of sugar. Bring it to boil. Filter it and feed him warm daily. It will reduce airway congestion and also Tulsi will boost immunity
5. Chyawanprash : 1 teaspoon twice a day will be beneficial to build up immunity
6. Himalaya Septilin syrup 5 ml twice a day will also boost immunity. Continue giving him for 3-4 months.

Do get back to me for any further assistance, will be glad to assist you.

Hello Doctor,

Thanks for your quick response.

I do stream inhalation thrice with eucalyptus oil and salt water gargel.

I was giving him half teaspoon dabur chawanprakask twice a day and stopped it recently since he has constipation while taking it. So please advise. Otherwise my son is active and drinks lots of water (atleast a litre in average)and takes fruits and vegetables. He doesn't take sugar which is the only problem I face. Was giving him amla juice with honey and stopped it recently.

Right now giving him septillin 1 teaspoon twice daily for the past one month. And he chews few XXXXXXX leaves in the morning and at night.

People keep telling me that its because I keep cleaning everything is why my son not getting immune to dust and other things when he goes out to school. He is fine when he has holidays. So do I avoid him playing with mud and splash pool. Please advise.

When he has cough and cold with fever what do u advise me to give him next time and do I just give him crocin / meftal and follow what you have mentioned in the mail. The only problem I face is he stops eating completely when he has cough/throat infection which is routine in his case. And he gets mouth ulcer on his tounge n inside the cheeks which I manage by using glycerine. And that he starts putting his hands inside his mouth n licks whatever he sees when he has mouth ulcer and throat infection.

And do I give all that mentioned in the above pointers 2,5,6 together daily.

And do I give him codoil since we being vegetarians.

As on 10th Feb 2014 he was 16kgs and 103.5 cm height. His DOB : 14th XXXXXXX 2011 Name : XXXXXXX

Thanks in advance.

Dear Ms XXXXX

Avoiding dust could be beneficial. At the same time do not be strict and XXXXXXX the childhood of your kid, occasionally let him play in the mud and enjoy. People are wrong in saying that immunity develops to mud if one gets continously exposed to mud. On the other hand exposure of mud in sensitive individual can worsen the symptoms.
Continue points 2,5 and 6 together and the frequency of attacks will reduce. Avoid exposure to dust, especially wash his pillows and bedsheets in boiling water. The very fact that he is fine during holidays suggest that the cause of symptoms is exposure to allergen outside home.

Next time when he has respiratory infection I would advise the following
1. Continue Steam inhalation: you can also add Karvol plus capsule in boiling water after giving plain steam inhalation for 10 minutes.
2. Give him Decoction of milk + 20 tulsi leaves + 1 spoon of turmeric + 2 gm of fresh ginger + 2 black pepper + 2 spoon of sugar . Feed him hot
3. Nasoclear Nasal drops in each nostril thrice aday
4. Syrup A to Z 5 ml twice a day; it will take care of oral apthous ulcer
5. Syrup Ascoril D 2.5 ml thrice a day for three days

Yes you can give cod liver oil. Weight and height are okay

Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you.

Take care
