What Causes Recurrent Skin Abscess?

default
Posted on Sat, 5 Mar 2016
Question: I have been getting abscesses every month or so for several mouths now. I tested positive for MRSA. I recently learned that I am a carrier. my doctor prescribed Clindomiocyn (sp?) and I'm about half way through the prescription, but the sore like pretty bad... yesterday it had kind of a black center with red around it, and then what looked like, almost, faint bruising around that, and now it just looks like a perfectly circular red, Nickel sized spot, with an even redder outline. I took a picture if there is a way for me to send it to you. there is no puss or anything anymore, and its only mildly sensitive to touch at this point. although I've had many abscesses in the last few months, they have all cleared up quickly with antibiotics (although none this strong), and they have never looked like this, or this bad.

Brief Answer:
Recurrent abscesses

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

Diabetes mellitus should always be screened for and ruled out in a person suffering from Recurrent skin abscess.

In case of Recurrent skin abscess carrier state is very common especially in the orifices such as oral, nasal and genital cavities. e.g staphylococcal carrier state(like nasal carrier)

Blood counts and blood cultures are required to look for possible immunodeficiency and causative organism based on which antibiotics can be prescribed.

Since, MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus ) was isolated, vancomycin can be advised for treatment and eradication. Topical antibiotics should be advised twice a day to the orifices. Kaolin poultice application can help resolve the abscess quickly as an adjuvant treatment.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks

I'm more concerned with the fact that this particular abscesse seems to be getting worse. It looks weird, much different from the others I've had. My doctor discontinued the original antibiotic I was on, and put my on a stronger one, that I take 4 times a day. I'm more than half way done with the stronger antibiotic, but the abscesses looks... Just... Bad... Is there a way that I can send you a picture?
