Posted on Wed, 8 Jun 2016
Question: I am a healthy 65 year old male with no apparent health issues but have had an ear lobe that keeps getting sore and burning for days before it develops a blister that lasts for another few days and then leaves a scab and clears up. this might happen once a year or skip 3 years and come back. It seems to be on the left lobe where I typically answer the phone. What is it?

Brief Answer:
Herpes simplex

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query.
Probably you have developed herpes simplex.
Your description matches with that.
You require treatment with suppressive dose of antivirals like acyclovir.
You can meet a dermatologist and get it prescribed.
If possible upload a photograph of the involved area.
This will help me in giving a closer diagnosis.
Waiting for your response.
Thank you.
