Brief Answer:
Do not worry

Detailed Answer:
Hi

I understand your apprehension regarding childhood asthma and use of MDI ( Metered dose inhalers). The most likely reason for such long lasting or recurrent coughs in pediatric age group is childhood Asthma. Its due to hyperresponsiveness of airways to allergens present in child's environment. Do not worry as it can be easily controlled by regular MDI therapy and once the symptoms improve, the medications can be gradually tapered.

Salbutamol and budecort or Foracort MDI are good to start with. They have minimal side effects at low- moderate doses and are best therapy available for Asthma. Just ensure regular mouth rinse after its use to avoid thrush and hoarseness of voice.

I would recommend you to start him on Syp.Montair LC kid instead of just levocetirizine. It will have added advantage and synergistic action with MDI.

Hopefully it will be of help. I would be happy to help you in any further questions.

Take care
