What Causes Recurring Pain In Right Lower Side Of Abdomen?

default
Posted on Mon, 15 Jun 2015
Question: Hello, I've been having recurring issues with a sharp pain in the lower right side of my abdomen/pelvic area. I sometimes will also have a less intense pain in the rest of my abdomen and back pain. The pain will generally go away after a month or two. This has occurred 4-5 times. I had an abdominal ultrasound that didn't show anything, just a slight fatty liver.

Brief Answer:
It could be Appendicitis.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Pain in the right lower side of the abdomen is commonly due to Appendicitis, Right sided Ureteric stone, Right ovarian pathology like twisted ovarian Cyst etc.
As Ultrasound abdomen is normal, most of them are excluded.
Appendicitis cannot be easily made out in Ultrasound. Identification of Appendix is difficult some times by Ultrasound.
I request you to get a CT Scan abdomen next time when the pain comes.
Usually, I prescribe antispasmodic tablet containing Dicyclomine to my patients with similar complaints initially.
Hope you are not having any bowel disturbances.
Hope I answered your query. If you have any questions, I will clarify further.
Wish you good health.
Regards
