                                            Question : Hello Dr. Batra,
I am a 32 year old female with PCOS. I am suffering with recurrent pustules and blisters on my mons pubis for the last year. The inner part of the labia majora is especially bad. I will attach pictures for your reference. I do get thrush once in a while but these episodes of what I suspect to be HSV-2 started about a year back. I often get flu-like symptoms during the initial phase of the outbreak but there is no foul-smelling vaginal discharge. The first few times, the itching was nearly unbearable but it has reduced considerably in the last 2-3 outbreaks. I have been getting very frequent outbreaks - nearly every month for the first couple of months. During my menstruation cycle, it gets worse. Effectively, it feel like my genital area is perpetually sore. Ironically, I have not been sexually active for the last 2 years. I also have PCOS.
Thanks in advance!

                                    Brief Answer:
Looks like genital Herpes (HSV-2)
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thank you for asking HCM.
I have gone through your query and pictures. It looks like genital herpes. You can go for HSV 1 and 2 blood tests. HIV test should be done also as genital herpes can coexist with HIV.
Antiviral therapy will be helpful in your case. Acyclovir or famcyclovir orally and local acyclovir cream will be helpful.
Keep the genital area clean. You can wash with saline or ice water for soothing. You can use intimate wash regularly to normalize vaginal bacterial flora and PH.
Also take citrus fruits ,chewable vitamin C and enough protein in diet to boost your immunity.
Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.
