What Causes Recurring Red Itchy Bumps On Lower Legs And Swollen Ankles?

default
Posted on Mon, 3 Oct 2016
Question: I have red itchy bumps on bottom of legs, itchy starting late afternoon. Had them off and on for couple of months. Swollen ankles, as well. I keep lotion on them, usually Aveeno. Backs of ankles are rough and dry, but legs are not dry. 71 years old, female. No other problems except arthritis. Should I go to my MD to check for MS, other autoimmune things or go to dermatologist? Live in XXXXXXX florida, but don't go out in the sun often.

Brief Answer:
A photo is required...

Detailed Answer:
Hi my dear,

I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concern.

1. Can you please send a photo of the affected area to me? I want to analyze the changes myself?

2. As per your description, the first thing that comes in mind at your age is bad circulation in the legs. Vein insufficiency is to rule out.

Eczema or fungal infection of the skin in legs is also to rule out.

3. So, a good clinical examination is required and further tests are advised to run such as diabetes testing, Doppler ultrasound of the blood vessels in lower extremities, etc.

I recommend to schedule an appointment with your physician and discuss my suggestions with him/her.

All the best.

I will visit my family doctor instead of the dermatologist. I have great energy and no other symptoms of diabetes or anything else.
But think the family MD should be the way to go.

Thanks so much.

Hi back dear XXXXXXX

Ok, go ahead with your physician (family doctor) and let me know the tests results.

I would appreciate to have a photo of your itchy legs too.
