Brief Answer:
Considerations

Detailed Answer:
hello and thank you for sending the question.

It looks like you might have a small infection under the skin. This can sometimes present with a red, warm area of swelling. I do not suspect it is directly related to the tattoo.

This can sometimes happen after resolution of a pimple. I would suggest that you try warm compressesto the affected area several times per day for the next few days. You might also apply a topical over-the-counter antibiotic ointment such as bacitracin and apply a Band-Aidover the area as well. This will help promote healing.

If the area of swelling progresses and increases in size significantly in the next several days or if you develop fevers or chills then it would be important that you visit with your local primary care doctor for evaluation.at that point you might need an antibiotic to take my mouth.

Again I will try some warm compresses to the area along with the topical antibiotic for now. I would expect it to heal over the next several days. If not please discuss with your doctor.

Thanks again for sending your question.

Sincerely,

Dr. Galamaga
