What Causes Red Bumps On The Arms?

default
Posted on Mon, 17 Oct 2016
Question: I was just wondering what these bigger red bumps were on my arms? I know the small ones were keratosis polaris, which is what my doctor told me. But i also have similar things on my legs. Ive attached a picture from my arm and my leg. A long time ago my dermatologist said that when I sweat on my legs that can cause rashes or those red bumps to pop up but i was just curious if i can do something about them on my arms and legs. What are these? Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Possible keratosis Pilaris

Detailed Answer:
Hello, Sir

I have worked through your attached pictures in detail.

The rash on the legs and thigh is also keratosis Pilaris

These lesions can be controlled well with topical steroids and retinoic acid cream, as both serve as antiinflammatory and immunomodulatory agents.

A 2 week trial with Fluticasone 0.05% lotion can be conducted after consulting your dermatologist.

Overall, In view of the described genetic predisposition and possible genetic etiology of keratosis pilaris (KP), no cure or universally effective treatment has been available.

Inconsistent remissions and variations with seasons and hormonal states is described.

Sometimes symptoms usually remit with increasing age, this is not always the case.

Some cases clear spontaneously without treatment.

Keratosis pilaris is generally a controllable but incurable condition.

Photodynamic therapy offers good results.

Please check with your dermatologist if he shares my view and if can prescribe these procedures to you.

Post your further questions if any.
Thank you.
