What Causes Red, Itchy And Sensitive Eyes After Having Amoxicillin For Infection?

Question: 1 month ago, I had an infection in my tongue from a bite. I was prescribed amoxicillin for 14 days which cleared the the problem up. About 2 weeks ago, my eyes became very sensitive to light, red and itchy. My eyelids swelled as well. I went to the ER and was diagnosed with acute sinusitis. The doctor said she saw a lot of post nasal drip as well as bloody mucus. I was given Prednisone for 3 days which alleviated the discomfort and swelling. I was also given another 10 day dose of Amoxicillin. Within a few days after the Prednisone dose, my eyelids and area under the eyes became swollen again. I went to a GP and was given a shot of Dexamethasone and Flonase spray. The doctor said it appeared that I was reacting to something. Again, the symptoms subsided for a few days but are now back. I put cotton in my left nostril as I slept one night and noticed that the eyelid swelling was not as bad in the morning. This morning, I woke up and my left eyelid was again full of fluid, mostly at the end by the eyelashes however the swelling is noticeable just above the eyelid and below both eyes

Although the eyelid swelling is more pronounced in the morning, it is present all day. My eyes are red in the morning as well. I have a constant feeling of eye strain. I can move my eyelids. I have no vision problems, no fever and do not feel ill otherwise. I take Welchol daily for minor LDL elevation (149. Ref range 0-100). I also take 80 mg Diovan for HBP. My BP has been around 120/80 recently on the average. I drive 3 hours a day and spend 8 hours in front of a computer. I get 5 hours of sleep a night on the average. I do not take any other drugs and only occasionally have alcohol. My urinary and bowel habits, consistency and color are normal. My sinuses no longer have any green or yellow discharge, however I still have discomfort along the sides of my nose and below the eyes. My skin color is normal and I have no swelling in other parts of my body.

Both doctors I spoke to suspected either seasonal allergies or allergic reaction. Since everything started about 1 week after taking Amoxicillin I suspected an allergy to that, however I stopped taking it 4 days ago.

Any opinions or suggestions would be appreciated as I do not want to continue with this. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
It looks mostly due to allergy with amoxicillin.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on HCM.
I can understand your situation and problem.
I have gone through the image you have attached.
Since all these symptoms started after amoxicillin, and improved with steroid (prednisone), possibility of allergy to amoxicillin is high.
Please let me know
1. Are you having any kind of allergy other than drugs, like food, dust, pollens etc.
2. At present which drugs you are talking?
3. Have you taken antihistamines and anti allergic drugs?
Please reply me answers of above asked questions, so that I can guide you better.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health.
Thanks.
