Posted on Fri, 5 Aug 2016
Question: I am a 27 year old male with no medical problems. I would like to know if these red marks and flaky skin around my genitals are razor burn or something else. I was sexually active 3 weeks ago. I shaved my genitals 3 weeks ago as well. There is some itching but not anymore than normal, I only noticed these spots because I was shaving again.

Brief Answer:
It is folliculitis

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day

Dear Sir

Going by description of symptoms and clinical photograph , it is likely to be folliculitis. It is infection and inflammation of hair follicles, it usually occurs due to colonisation of hair follicles by bacteria ( staphylococcus ) at time of shaving. It is benign and can be taken care off.

Local application of Mupircon / fucidic acid ointment twice a day , even continued after shaving for a week will be curative.

Prophylactic application after shaving will help prevent it.
