Posted on Mon, 29 Sep 2014
Question: I have had testicle pain for the last two months. Doctors put me on Doxycycline and a couple days after the course the testicles did not hurt as much and stopped been red(inflamed) . However, as of yesterday they are red again and very tender. Also I have to pee many times a day and I have lower back pain on both sides at different times throughout the day.

It feels as if I have been kicked there

Brief Answer:
UTI and Orchitis. Antibiotic is needed to treat.

Detailed Answer:
Good Day and thank you for being with Healthcare Magic!

You may have urinary tract infection and orchitis (infection and inflammation of the testis) as a complication of the UTI. Your previous episode of swelling in the testis may or may not be related to your current problem. I would suggest getting a urine sample examination to check for pus cells. For my patients I usually prescribe ciprofloxacin and NSAIDs (e.g mefenamic acid, ibuprofen) to relieve the swelling and the pain. Since ciprofloxacin is an antibiotic and a prescription is needed for you to purchase them in a drugstore you may need to see a doctor to get a prescription.

I would also urge you to have a complete bedrest while there is swelling and pain so not to aggravate your condition.

I hope I have succeeded in providing the information you were looking for. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications at: http://www.HealthcareMagic.com/doctors/dr-manuel-c-see-iv/66014 I would gladly help you. Best wishes.

I was prescribed Cefuroxime 10 day course by one doctor and Cipro 4 week course by another docter. I'm not sure either of these will work... but which one should I try do you think? Also my CBC blood count was 78 two weeks ago and 141 three days ago. My creatinine was 111 then 125 now as of thee days ago its at 98. One more thing to note, scrotum is noticeably more itchy now. I'm slightly concerned I have a rare bacteria or fungus and that I'll never find out exactly... causing this to be permanent.

Brief Answer:
Ciprofloxacin would be better.

Detailed Answer:
Good Day and thank you for being with Healthcare Magic!

I would recommend taking in ciprofloxacin since it has better empiric coverage for the usual Uro-psrhogens.

To be able to identify the bacteria that is causing the infection we could do a urine culture and sensitivity.

WBC count in the CBC increase reflects active infection and inflammation in the body.
